FAQs
Frequently asked questions.
How often should I have my air conditioner and furnace serviced?
For both your peace of mind and as a best practice, it’s best to have it checked annually. Because of the important service HVAC systems provide, particularly during some of the harsher Nebraskan seasons, a professional system check from Action Plumbing & Heating can prevent problems before they disrupt your life. Maintenance is highly recommended to maximize the life and efficiency of your equipment.
How often should I replace my air filter?
Action Plumbing & Heating recommends that a 1”-thick filter be checked monthly and changed at least every three months. Some homes require a new filter every month because of location, age, and traffic through the home. If you have a media filter, which is about 4-5” thick, we recommend replacement once every 8–12 months.
How long should my air conditioner or furnace last from the installation date?
The average life of equipment depends on the level of care it receives. The average lifespan of equipment is generally 17–20 years. While some equipment over 30 years old may still be up and running (which is impressive), the cost of operation is probably significantly higher than newer models. For example, geothermal heat pumps run much more efficiently than even ten-year-old equipment.
What is the average life of my water heater?
The average lifespan is 8–12 years. The most common cause of failure is a weld on the tank. You may notice a stream of water or a small puddle underneath the tank. When that happens, call Action Plumbing & Heating right away!
